Frequently asked questions

  • How long is each lesson? 45 minutes, indoors.

  • How many children are in each group? No more than 6 children in each group. That is a ratio of 6:1. I want to keep the groups small, to engage with the children and really get the best out of them.

  • Can my child have a free trial? Yes. Free trials are running at the end of March. In the summer term, you can still have one free trial if there is room in the class. Contact Emma to sign up.

  • Can I pay each week or do I have to sign up for a whole term? Please pay upfront for the term as all venues are booked on a term by term basis. It also ensures that your child has continuity, and builds confidence with the same children in the group. They also progress through the term.

  • How much are the classes and how do I pay? Fees are £90 in advance for a ten-class term.

  • Do I stay and get involved with the class? No, the classes are coach-led. Obviously you are welcome to stay and watch the first few lessons, but when your child is happy to be left then we ask you to do so. The last week of the term will be open to parents to watch.

  • Will my child hit a ball over the net in every lesson? While that would be the dream, there are a lot of fundamentals to get right before this happens. The main objective at the beginning is to develop their hand-eye coordination, ball skills and movement/tracking towards the ball which helps them to read the ball and hit it over the net. They will use their racket for a lot of the lesson, but it may not necessarily mean they are hitting forehands and backhands by week 2.

  • What should my child wear and bring? Trainers, comfortable clothing and a water bottle.  Tennis rackets are provided, but you are welcome to bring your own if you have one.

  • Does my child need to have played tennis before? No, this is an introduction to tennis.

  • My child is 6+, how can they get involved in Tennis? Contact Paul at Marlow Tennis Club. He runs excellent classes for 6 years up www.marlowtennisclub.co.uk
